Faux is the name given to “untrue” or “look alike” when used to explain a material produced to copy an original stone. (Think about faux fur coats…and you realize what I mean) and just like the rise of faux fur to protect the killing of innocent creatures, the nature won’t have to be ruined to extract genuine stone.
You can do basic things like picking up an outdoor area rug and some new furniture. Match it with some dishes, cushions, and pottery to create the look of the indoors. The biggest mistake most homeowners make is not adding those soft good items to make your patio or porch feel like a room.
Heck, maybe you’ve even taken the time to look at some of the possibilities in the marketplace and thought to yourself after a little bit of shopping around that the costs were more than a tiny bit on the steep side (this is true), and you might have sold yourself on the thought that it would be a real pain to decorate with. You know what I mean here, finding an installer that you can trust and so forth. But here is what you really need to know if you want to bring the look of natural stone inside your home. You now have a less expensive way of doing it, actually the costs are considerably less, and that is installing and remodeling with what is called a natural thin בריק.
Aluminum siding may be used instead of vinyl as it is more durable than vinyl but is can dent and it is difficult to repair. Expect around $4 – $6 per square foot installed.
A few notes to keep in mind. Make sure you don’t cover an outlet. This project does not require the use of a load bearing wall, nor does it require you to damage any part of your wall. Simply nail the inside of the hearth lengthwise to your baseboard.
Then tape off only the stones of one color at a time to allow for dry time before taping on to the stones that may be wet. If you are using a single color tape the bricks off that do not touch each other. Remember the option of appearing lighter or darker? This is the step where color preferences make the difference. If you want your wall to appear dark you want to start with a black glazing. If you want it to appear brighter use a tan or lighter color with glazing. I don’t’ recommend white, it can be hard to work with but it does look great.
Best part is – the stone stacking or masonry veneer can be applied onto both plasterboard or masonry walls without having to strengthen them. The artificial stone veneer is thin enough and light enough to not require any structural wall alterations. So that means you can select any manufactured stone product without worrying if you need to spend money building additional foundations for your walls.
